Massage

Massage should be about providing you what you need to feel better. Sometimes you might need a slow soothing massage to put your mind at ease. Other times, a more upbeat approach might be called for, to energize and enliven yourself. Or sometimes you'll need targeted work, to address deep pain and/or discomfort.

I'll do a comprehensive evaluation before each massage to identify your specific goals and needs, and I'll shape your session to meet those goals. As a result, each massage will be a combination of different modalities to best meet your current needs.

The Massage modalities I will draw from for every massage are:

Neuromuscular Therapy (Trigger Point Therapy and then some)

A specific medically oriented style that focuses on finding the source of pain and dysfunction. Targeted manual therapies are applied directly to those areas. With NMT, it is common to spend an entire hour long session working a specific problem area (e.g. the neck, shoulders, low back, glutes, etc)

Sometimes people come in complaining of pain in the upper back, chest and arms. Deep massage and release of the scalenes can alleviate some of these pains.

Myofascial Release

This type of body work targets connective tissue, to increase warmth, pliability and promote the hydration of soft tissue. It helps to provide a feeling of openness and space.

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage involves slow, gentle strokes that gradually increase in pressure, melting away surface tension in order to access deeper layers of tissue.

There are many muscle connections along the spine and techniques such as this one are deeply soothing to those back muscles. Massage techniques such as these are effective for lower back pain and fatigue.

Sports Massage

This is a type of massage designed to help the body cope with the effects of physical activity. Sports massge is used to recover from a heavy workout, increase flexibility, decrease risk of injury, and manage chronic conditions arising from repetitive activities.

Swedish Massage

This type of massage is a general, light to moderate massage aimed at promoting relaxation, increasing circulation, and promoting feelings of peace and well-being.
